Coffee Bean Prices on the Boil

Brasil’s Weather is the Centre of Attention Right Now

Producing a third of the World’s coffee and half of the World’s Arabica coffee beans, when Brasil sneezes, the world feels the effect.

Steadily rising demand coupled with poor weather at the most critical times have helped coffee process to two-year highs. Coffee Roasters and wholesalers are having to reshuffle their stocks and either increase the prices of their coffee beans or use an inferior product to make up the difference. Big companies like Starbucks have stated they have already locked in process for 2015 which will protect them from what is shaping up to be a bad year for Brasilian coffee farmers and exporters.

In Sydney, as coffee suppliers, Black Market Roasters, we will be watching to see when we feel the effects of these events hit our shores. Brokers are already warning about potential supply shortfalls and keeping everyone primed to expect a price jump in pulp naturals out of Brasil.

For the average consumer though, it will unlikely have a dramatic medium term affect. Small price increases will mean the Coffee Roaster is merely keeping or increasing their quality in the cup and should be commended for doing so.
