ORIGIN: Indonesia Sumatra Wahana

This coffee boasts a peach sweetness with notes of strawberries, mandarin and tropical zest but it still has the characteristic underlying spice that is so typical of Sumatran coffees.  It’s absolutely delicious and as the roaster is my pick for this month!

Wahana Estate is located in a region called Sidikalang in the Northern part of Sumatra.  At the plantation they practice organic growing techniques and adhere to Rainforest Alliance procedures however are at this stage are not yet certified.

At Wahana they are experimental in their approach and therefore produce coffees which have unique characteristics when compared with other Indonesian coffees.  In particular it is very rare for Indonesian growers to produce natural process coffee and these guys are doing a fantastic job!

They are situated perfectly at 1200-1500 meters above sea level, have nice warm weather during the day at around 25 degrees and nice cool temperatures at night at around 15 degrees.  These conditions are perfect for growing cherries that have a great sugar content and therefor are nice and sweet.  They even measure their Brix levels before picking and often have readings of more than 13%.
