FIKAPAUS NOVEMBER! (just FYI even though it looks like I couldn’t be bothered to translate November into Swedish – ‘November’ in Swedish, is November)
My orange tree goes bananas (ha) this time of year, dropping orange fruit bombs all over the driveway, attracting birds and getting messy. So best I gather a bucket of the ripe and juiceies, bring it into the kitchen, and get messy making a year’s worth of marmalade. My favourite recipe is Deliah’s Seville Orange Marmalade, I have no idea what kind my oranges are: Seville, Navel, heck, they could even be grapefruits for all I know, but it is delicious and the marmalade police haven’t busted me yet. Don’t laugh, they exist. I once asked someone to pass the marmalade and she looked at me confusedly and replied, ‘but we don’t have any.’ I pointed to the jar and I said, ‘there it is! Could you please pass it over?” “But that isn’t marmalade!” she cried, genuinely shocked and worried about my mental state, “that’s orange conserve.” It was a shameful mistake I shan’t be making again. And neither shall you with this recipe up your sleeve. A note however. Making marmalade is a long and sticky process, if that’s not your jam, go to the markets and get yourself a good quality jar of the stuff, some sourdough, and slather it on with sweet abandon.
