Joining this small class of Barista’s is both fun and informative. Our Barista Course in Sydney is designed to help baristas join the specialty cafe scene and get a job! When learning how to make coffee at a Coffee School in Sydney, it is important to work on commercial coffee equipment so you can get used to the power and intensity of a large machine. In our barista course in Newtown, Sydney, we provide a short theory beginning, then turn to practical run-through’s of all beverage menu items. Learning how to make a flat white, latte, cappuccino and others is crucial if you are to get a job in the Australian Cafe scene.

Asking questions and making mistakes is encouraged in our Black Market Roasters barista course. Over the 3 hours, you will learn how and where coffee is grown and importantly how flavour changes in coffee. Making coffee can be a tricky process, though with the right teacher and a simple, effective system, you can improve consistency both at home and during service in a busy cafe.

    This barista course was great! I learned a lot: where coffee comes from, how it’s made, processed and roasted, how to pull a beautiful shot of espresso, how to froth milk, the basics of latte art, etc
    I enjoyed having a small class because I felt like I got a lot of time, help and attention from the instructor (Jess). She was super patient with us and was really good at explaining and answering any questions we had. Also had lots of fun with little group/individual competitions making coffees.
    Overall, I felt it’s well worth the money. It definitely boosted my confidence in becoming a barista

    All in all an ‘absolute experience’ if you love your coffee. I’ve done a few courses before but the BMR course is definitely the best, I highly recommend speaking to them . Learned the ins & outs of what it takes to get that perfect cup, things i’ve never heard before, new skills, techniques & a lot of practical experience on the machines.     Signed up to the course after a little “research” (googling a number of different barista courses out there in Sydney) and chose Black Market Roasters because we were after a course that covers all the basic entry level skills for home baristas which was exactly what we’ve got. Class was a good size – group of 6 and led by an experienced barista Clare – these guys operate their own roastery and cafe. A good balance of theory time and practice time on the machines. Thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday morning course and we can’t wait to put those skills to use at home, thanks Black Market Roasters.

    I had a great evening at BlackMarketRosters! During 3 hours, I learned a lot about coffee, its origins, roasting process. During the practice time, our small class of 4 students, learned how to use a professional coffee machine, how to make the perfect espresso shot (grinding, weighing, tamping and extract the coffee). We made many coffees of the menu and our friendly teacher gave us a lot of advices to improve our skills.

    Really interesting course! Kenny took a good amount of time to explain the theory of coffee beans and their supply and showed us his bespoke tricks to make the perfect cup before making way for us to practice. Kenny was also flexible, allowing us to practice with soy milk given 3 out of 5 of us were vegan, and also recognising the rise in popularity of plant based milks and the difference in steaming temp. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!

    A big thank you to Franco & Clare for showing us the ropes of the Barista trade. Clare oozed passion for coffee in its myriad of origins and blends while Franco demonstrated his years of barista experience, instructing us in the importance of purging, getting the right dose (grind weight), correct temper & grind coarseness to ensure the ideal espresso pull time, in addition to milk frothing/pouring techniques. He expertly answered my endless questions about the minutiae of cafe jargon as well, given just how much stuff there is to learn about the coffee trade!

    I probably would have appreciated a little more time on the machine as I still feel like a green bean when it comes to milk frothing & pouring, but I will get better at that with time!

    And yeah, its 1am and I’m still not asleep yet. Caffeineeeeeeee….

It’s a bit intimate so the great thing is that you can ask as many questions as you like and you will always find an answer as those guys are real pro without being arrogant or fussy. Nice and pro. For people who want to become baristas or people who want to know more about coffee or simply learn how to make coffee. My only regret is that I would have loved to spend more time there to make more coffees and learn how to make some basic simple shapes AND especially get more confident in making all sorts of practice. But I guess it’s now up to us to get our own experience and practice. They sure gave us the good basix! Thanks again guys I LOVED IT! πŸ™‚

    it was an intimate class. we were 4 of us plus Franco as a really nice teacher with a sense of humor. It was a great experience for me as first time I could make all varieties of hot drinks and the whole 3 hours was full of information and practical exercise. We tried to make coffee as much we could and the great night was finished just as it was supposed to.

    Franco did a great job of explaining to us the basic techniques required to make a perfect cup of coffee. He patiently answered all the questions, elaborated in layman’s terms and gave good analogies when someone couldn’t understand what was being taught. As previously mentioned, the classes are very hands-on. We were able to learn how to properly use the coffee machine & the grinder. It’s a good course for beginners like me.

    Very useful introductory barista course. Under 3 hours I was able to remember the basic steps and techniques in making coffee + basic latte art. Very conducive learning environment since we practiced in small groups of 4. Would like to give my utmost thanks to Rimba for being a patient and knowledgable instructor. Just a slight feedback – it would be great to have a more personalised certificate so that it’s not easily replicable (with the instructor/owner’s signature and/or our names printed). Otherwise, it’s been such an awesome session, and I would totally recommend this course to others.
